Description:
Suffrutex growing from a rhizome, forming extensive colonies up to several meters wide. Stems mostly unbranched, usually up to 30 cm tall but up to 50 cm if protected from fires. Leaves usually more or less narrowly elliptic, discolorous, hairless and glossy green above, sparsely. finely rough hairy and greyish-green beneath. Flowers in subsessile, axillary 1-7-flowered clusters, unisexual., reddish. Fruit subglobose, c. 3.5 cm long, densely golden-brown hairy at least when young.

Habitat: In various types of woodland, wooded grassland and at the edges of vleis, always on Kalahari sand.
