Description:
Usually a small, densely-branched deciduous tree. Leaves in whorls of 3 on short, rigid side branchlets, which look almost like blunt spines. Flowers solitary at the ends of the branchlets, white and showy but short lived, turning yellow when fading. Fruit greyish to pale brown, ellipsoid to almost spherical with 8-11 coarse ribs, sometimes only shallow, covered in small wart-like lenticels.
