Description:
Slender or much-branched annual or short-lived perennial herb, up to 1 m. Stems strongly ribbed and glandular hairy. Leaves alternate, sessile, elliptic to ovate-oblong; margin serrate. Capitula many, disk florets only, dark mauve to purple.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name:
Habitat: On sandbanks near rivers, on floodplains, in pans and on woodland and grassland on Kalahari sand.
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: Angola, Zambia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and northern Cape, South Africa.
