Description:
More or less erect annual herb up to 60 cm high, much-branched from near the base. Leaves alternate, sessile, narrowly elliptic to linear, 12-50 mm long, more or less hairy; margin undulate-crenate with small projecting teeth. Inflorescence laxly-flowered. Flowers sessile or shortly pedicellate but pedicels elongating in fruit up to 25 mm. Corolla campanulate up to 12 mm long, 4-5-lobed, united to c. halfway, mauve-blue or white. Style with 2 tiny glands at the base. Capsules cylindrical, up to 2 cm long, often slightly curved, prominently c; 10-veined, crowned with the persistent calyx lobes and the style base forming a hard cone on the top.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: rhodesica: of Rhodesia, referring to what is now Zimbabwe and Zambia.
Habitat: In seasonally wet places such as river banks and lake shores on sand or mud.
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: Angola, DRC, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia.
