Description:
Somewhat scrambling shrub, rarely a small tree. Leaves opposite, variable in shape and size, mostly broadly elliptic to ovate, velvety hairy on the undersurface. Flowers bell-shaped in 1-5 flowered clusters, borne on distinct axillary stalks, appearing before or with the new leaves. Corolla white, often tinged pink with long, fluffy hairs in the throat. Fruit almost round, crowned with the remains of the calyx, hairy black when ripe.

Habitat: In riverine thickets and open deciduous woodland.

Worldwide distribution: Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Caprivi-Namibia, Botswana and Limpopo, South Africa.
