Description:
Annual or short-lived perennial herb with single, procumbent or suberect stems. Leaves opposite, linear-lanceolate to elliptic. Flowers on long peduncles in axillary few-flowered inflorescences, white, pale blue or mauve with soft hairs on the throat and corolla.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: pentandrus: with five stamens.
Habitat: In muddy soil in riverine grassland and Phragmites or Papyrus swamps.
Flowering time:Apr
Worldwide distribution: Widespread in Tropical Africa, Madagascar and Arabia. Also in Southern USA,Cuba, Nicaragua and Brazil.
