Description:
This shows the other extreme of the variability in Solanum campylacanthum which is armed on most parts, including the leaves broadly ovate with margin deeply lobed with broadly triangular or rounded lobes and prickles on the midrib and lateral veins.
Notes: The fruits are poisonous and used as a traditional medicine for many ailments.
Derivation of specific name:
Habitat: Mostly as a weed of disturbed and overgrazed areas and road sides.
Flowering time:Nov - Mar
Worldwide distribution: Of unknown origin but now widespread in eastern and southern Africa, this form appears to be far less common than the unarmed, weedy form.
