Description: |
Perennial twining herb with annual stems, up to 1.5 m long, growing from a disc-like tuberous rootstock. Milky sap present. Leaves opposite, variable, lanceolate to ovate, up to 8 × 3 cm, cordate at the base, more or less pubescent; margin entire, lobed or appearing toothed with many very small short lobes. Flowers in 2-4-flowered axillary clusters. Corolla bottle-shaped, 4-6 cm long, swollen 7-9 mm wide in the basal two-thirds of the tube, white to greenish-white, more or less distinctly spotted or striped in the upper half; lobes linear, c. 1 cm long, curving inward and connecting at the tips to form a more or less spherical "cage", black with green stripes; margins reflexed with long hair-like cilia. Fruit in 2 erect, almost parallel, follicles, terete, linear-filiform, up to 10 cm long, hairless. |
