Description: |
Perennial herb up to 75 cm high with milky sap. Leaves opposite, linear; margins often rolled under. Inflorescences axillary on long peduncles, densely-flowered, spherical. Flowers cream, often tinged purple-brown on the inside of the corolla lobes. |
Notes: | Although we have P. mackenii as the currently accepted name with P. mossambicense as a synonym, some sources still treat both as separate, accepted species. |
Derivation of specific name: | mackenii: after Mark Johnston McKen (1823-1872), Scottish plant collector and herbarium curator at the Durban Botanic Gardens. |
