Description:
Evergreen shrub or small tree up to 6 m tall. Young shoots hairless except for rusty scales. Leaves usually opposite or subopposite, mostly obovate, oblanceolate or oblanceolate–elliptic, up to 4 cm long and 1·5 cm broad, hairless beneath except for scales; lateral veins and tertiary veins almost invisible; petiole up to 3 mm long; margin often strongly wavy. Inflorescence axillary, unbranched, c. 1 cm long. Male flowers c. 3 mm. long. Corolla deeply lobed, widely open at the throat, each lobe with strigulose hairs. Stamens c. 16. Ovary covered with whitish scales. Fruit c. 7 mm in diameter.
