Description:	Shrubby perennial herb with spreading or ascending branches, up to 1 m tall but usually shorter, growing from a woody rootstock. Stems. Stems more or less 4-angled or flattened, often densely appressed silvery hairy. Leaves pinnate with 5-8 broadly elliptic to obovate leaflets; terminal leaflet largest, 1-4 cm long. Inflorescence a raceme 5-30 cm long, including the peduncle. Flowers bright pink with the standard greenish to yellowish with pink stripes. Pods cylindrical to 4 angled, spreading or reflexed, mostly 18-36 mm long, straight or curved to sharply bent at the base, densely appressed hairy.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name:	schimperi: named after Wilhelm Schimper, explorer and collector, particularly in Ethiopia.
Habitat:	Grassy areas in mopane and mixed Acacia woodland, on river banks, margins of floodplains and termite mounds, often on black clay soils.

Worldwide distribution:	Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Angola, Caprivi-Namibia, Eswatini and Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Also in Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
