Description:
Medium-sized to large deciduous tree. Bark greyish-brown, flaking, leaving pale patches. Stipules present. Leaves paripinnate with 4-6 pairs of (sub)opposite leaflets. Leaflets oblong-elliptic, 3-9 cm long, dark green above paler below, leathery; margin entire with a yellow rim. Inflorescence leaf-opposed, racemose, 4-7-flowered. Flowers with a single petal, pinkish-red with yellow veining. Fruit a large flattened pod, thickly woody, 10-17 cm, splitting to reveal large, shiny black seeds with a bright red aril.
