Description:
Small prostrate annual herb. Stems and branches spreading, reddish, up to c. 7 cm long. Leaves opposite, fleshy 2-4 mm long, broadly elliptic to ovate with numerous stipular hairs, c. 2 mm long. Flowers solitary or in clusters of 2-3 at the ends of branches; petals 4, purpish or white, united about halfway; stamens 4. Fruit a capsule, ovoid-globose, c. 2 mm long, dehiscing horizontally.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: hereroensis: from Hereroland in Namibia, inhabited by the Herero people
Habitat: In shallow soils on rocky outcrops or as a pioneer on bare alluvial soils.
