Description: |
Perennial herbs up to c. 1 m tall, growing from a thick horizontal, regularly constricted rhizome; roots long, spongy, often swollen towards the tips. Leaves many, linear-lanceolate, up to 50 cm long, half-folded; margin wavy, ciliate. Peduncle terete, hairless below, densely papillate-pubescent above; bracts linear, up to 15 cm long. Inflorescence usually with 1-3 basal branches, densely flowered; floral bracts linear, lower ones up to 20 mm long. Pedicels 1-5 per node, c. 5 mm long in fruit. Perianth slightly bell-shaped, united at the base, white; tepals 3-veined, densely glandular-papillate. Capsule obovoid, up to 10 mm long, 3-angled, deeply lobed. |
