Tufted perennial. Culms 70–140 cm. high, the base not bulbous, clad in glabrous or pubescent leaf-sheaths. Panicle 8–30 cm. long, linear, loosely contracted, the spikelets in groups of (2)3 on short pedicels. Spikelets 10–18 mm. long, yellowish brown, glabrous. Inferior glume 1/2–1/3 length of spikelet. Inferior lemma 5-nerved. Superior lemma pubescent, the lobes usually tipped by a seta 0.5–2 mm. long, with a central awn 1.5–3.5 cm. long. |
