Description: |
A loosely caespitose or creeping annual. Culms (5)10–40(50) cm., decumbent or creeping at the base, glabrous, nodes dark and loosely to densely hairy. Leaf sheaths subglabrous to partly densely hairy, scaberulous. Ligule 1–2 mm. long, subtruncate, entire. Leaf laminae 3–8 × 0.2–0.4 cm., linear, flat, subglabrous and scaberulous on both surfaces, scaberulous along the crisped margin. Inflorescence composed of (1)2–5 racemes, 5–15 cm. long, mostly in one whorl, sometimes in two whorls, separated by a short common axis. Rhachis triquetrous, narrowly winged, up to 0.5 mm. broad, smooth with scabrous margins. Pedicels 2-nate, 0.5–2.5 mm. long, subterete to triangular, ciliate, not broadened at the apex, which can bear a poorly developed coronula. Spikelets 8–11(15) mm. long, linear. Inferior glume 0.25–0.75 mm. long, truncate, rarely oblong triangular, nerveless, hyaline, separated from the other scales by a narrow stipe, 1–3 mm. long. Superior glume 7–8(12) mm. long, lanceolate-linear, 7-nerved, the central and submarginal nerves well developed, pale green, appressed hairy, hairs fine, with an irregularly recurved apex. Inferior lemma c. 4 mm. long, lanceolate, 5-nerved, appressed hairy, pale green. Superior lemma c. 3 mm. long, lanceolate, acuminate, pale yellow to greenish or bluish purple. |
