Description:
Annual. Culms 10–120 cm. high, erect or geniculately ascending. Inflorescence of 3–20 racemes, these 1–5 cm. long, bearing paired spikelets on a puberulous (occasionally pilose) triquetrous or narrowly winged rhachis; pedicels commonly setose, those of a pair usually free. Spikelets (2.5)3–5 mm. long, lanceolate, thinly pubescent. Inferior glume absent; superior glume attenuate to an awnlet 0.5–4 mm. long. Inferior floret represented only by a lemma. Superior lemma with a mucro 0.3–1 mm. long.
