Description: |
Loosely tufted annual with erect or ascending, wiry culms up to 50 cm high, hairless at the nodes, with a ring of yellowish glands below the nodes; ligule a line of hairs. Leaves linear, 3–15 cm long, flat or rolled in, hairless and without glands, blueish-green to green. Panicle narrowly lanceolate to linear-oblong, 4–22 cm long, contracted and dense with ascending branches; pedicels 0.6–2 mm long; branches and pedicels with more or less oblong non-sticky glands. Spikelets narrowly oblong to ovate, 2.5–4.5 mm long, lightly laterally compressed, 6–12-flowered; glumes unequal, lightly keeled, narrowly oblong to lanceolate in profile, hairless; inferior glume 1–1.6 mm long; superior glume 1.3–2 mm long; lemmas oblong to oblong-elliptic in profile, 1–1.5 mm long, lightly keeled. |

Habitat: | Grasslands and wooded grasslands, dambo margins, river sides, lake-shores and floodplains, usually Kalahari Sand and other sandy soils. Often weedy in disturbed areas. |
