Graminoid; Notes: Shorty-tufted, spiny, perennial grass, stoloniferous, forming over dense cover, 40 - 50 cm high when in flower. Culms erect to geniculate, rooting at nodes, slender, terete, glabrous, dull yellow-green. Leaves basal with bases persistent. Leaf blade tightly rolled, conspicuously spine-tipped, rigid and erect, grey-green, 20 - 150 mm long, slightly auriculate and yellow at base, abax. with long, white hairs especially basally also conspicuously ciliate. Ligule a narrow fringe of white hairs, 1 mm wide. Leaf sheath short, at most 40 mm long, not circumbulmate glabrous but finely ciliate along margin. Inflorescence a contracted panicle, spicate, 10 - 12 cm x 3 mm, borne on long, slender, articulated peduncle. Lateral spikes up to 1 cm long, erect against apex. Spikelets awnless, minute, 2 mm long, densely arranged, entirely deciduous. |
