| Notes: | Graminoid; Notes: Annual grass, 40 cm when in flower. Culm geniculate, terete, bright green but nodes purple, smooth, glabrous. Leaf blades basally densely tufted, relatively short, no more than 10 cm long, often folded, relatively hard with scabrid margin, dull green to maroon-tinted, basal margin tending to hyaline. Ligule inconspicuous. Leaf sheath overlapping, about same length as blade, glabrous. Inflorescence 7 - 11 digitately compound spikes, about 9 cm long, vertical; borne on slender peduncle up to 15 cm long. Spikelet about 1 mm long, 1 awn/lemma, green to blackish with dense, long, white indumentum; initially sheathed. |
