Notes: Graminoid; Notes: Tall, tufted, perennial grass, up to 1.5 m high when in flower. Culms erect, rigid, reed-like, terete, yellowish with brown-banded nodes, glabrous smooth. Leaf blade expanded, gradually tapering over a length of up to 30 cm, up to 1.5 cm wide canaliculate, dull green, stiff, glabrous, rounded at base to constrict at collar. Ligule a narrow membranous ridge, dark brown, glabrous. Leaf sheath 120 mm long, tightly circumculmate but not overlapping, glabrous. Inflorescence a compound panicle, 15 - 20 cm long. Raceme up to 3 cm long, enclosed in narrowly ovate, membranous sheath. Spikelets narrowly ellipsoid, 3 x 1 mm; glumes greenish, not all awned. Awns long, fine, purple-based. Pollen golden yellow.
