Graminoid; Notes: Tufted annual grass, up to 60 cm when in flower. Culms ascending but slightly geniculate at base, fresh-green becoming straw-coloured, relatively slender, terete, with scattered long, white indumentum, nodes broadly brown-banded with dense, short, white velutinous indumentum. Leaf blades narrowly elliptic to lanceolate, gradually tapering to an acute apex, expanded, 80-200 x 7-15 mm, softly textured, bright green, mostly ascending but occasionally spreading, glabrous, margin hyaline, minutely sinuate with conspicuous stiff, white, falcate, bulbous-based indumentum, base somewhat auriculate. Ligule a semi-circular ridge bearing a fringe of long, white, stiff hairs extending conspicuously onto the collar. Leaf sheath about 60 mm long, overlapping, paler green, with dense, long, white, indumentum, imbricate at base but otherwise loosely arranged around culm. Inflorescence a panicle of spaced racemes, ellipsoid in outline, 10-15 cm long, borne on extremely slender, glabrous peduncle. Spathe lacking. Raceme about 9 cm long, not rigid, alternate, densely velutinous at point of junction between primary and secondary axes. Spikelet ellipsoid 4 x 2 mm, apex aristate. Glumes membranous, greenish, with long white indumentum concentrated at base and along margins. 2 flowers/spikelet, lower sterile, upper both male and female. Stigma branches dark brown. Spikelets arranged in 2 rows. Terminalia sericea woodland. |
