Description of the genus

Herbs (in ours), sometimes shrubby below, often glandular. Leaves digitately 3-9-foliolate or rarely simple (monophylla). Flowers zygomorphic, in terminal racemes. Sepals 4, often glandular. Petals 4. Stamens 2-many, all fertile or some sterile. Androgynophore 0 or very short (except in C. gynandra where it is longer than the corolla). Gynophore 0 or short. Fruit a 2-valved, dehiscent capsule, often borne on an elongated gynophore.

Worldwide: 150 species from tropical and warm areas

Caprivi: 4 taxa.
