Shrubs or small trees, often
climbing or scrambling. Flowers solitary. Bracteole 1, on
the lower half of the pedicel, persistent, foliaceous (in ours). Sepals 3, much shorter than the petals in bud. Petals 6, in two whorls, free. Stamens numerous, cuneate-quadrate. Carpels few to numerous, free. Ripe carpels indehiscent, beaded-cylindric, stipitate, succulent.
