Perennial herbs with a short rhizome. Roots fusiform, fleshy. Leaves rosulate; outer scale-like, tubular at base; inner subterete, smaller. Inflorescence a condensed, many-flowered raceme. Bracts white, translucent. Pedicels not articulated. Perianth segments free, pinkish-white; outer ones 3-nerved; inner 1-nerved. Filaments with long hairs. Ovary sessile. Capsule broadly obovoid. Seeds deltoid, not winged. Worldwide: 3 species from Central to NE Africa. Caprivi: 1 taxon. |
