Shrubs, sometimes scrambling, or trees. Leaves chartaceous to almost coriaceous. Stipules shortly sheathing, often with central area darkened. Inflorescences terminal on main and lateral branches, sometimes also with axillary inflorescences. Calyx with both limb-tube and lobes present. Corolla hairless or pubescent outside. Placenta ovate with 1-15 impressed ovules. Fruit often whitish when mature, 2-locular. Seeds 2-several per fruit, brown, smooth, with a circular excavation. Worldwide: c. 50 species, throughout tropical Africa Caprivi: 1 taxon. |
