Description: | Caespitose perennial; culms up to 120 cm high, erect, little branched above. Leaf sheaths with well developed auricles, glabrous; ligule (1.5)2.5–6 mm long, truncate; laminas 7.5–33 cm × 1–3.2 mm, revolute with a conspicuous keel, shortly and densely pilose, tapering to a very fine point at the apex. Racemes in pairs, 1.5–7.5 cm long, ± terete, clearly exserted from the spatheoles; peduncles much longer than the racemes; internodes and pedicels ± strongly canaliculate, very broad and thin, slightly clavate, ciliate on both margins with hairs 0.5–1 mm long. Spikelets dark red. Sessile spikelet 4.5–5 mm long, with rounded callus; inferior glume with a deep median groove, glabrous; superior glume strongly convex on the back, 2-toothed at the apex, with a mucro up to 2 mm long; superior lemma 2–3.5 mm long, bifid almost to the base; awn 1–2-geniculate, 18–29 mm long; anthers 2–2.7 mm long, bright red. Pedicelled spikelet male or sterile in the same plant, 4–6 mm long; inferior glume with scattered short hairs and an awnlet up to 1.5 mm long. | |
